Cry

Me A  River

Ford Nichols

A writing blog...

For idiots.

By an idiot.

About Me

About Me

About me? Well it should be more "About Cry Me A River".

Cry Me A River (CMR) is a book created by Ford Nichols in the late fall of 2015. The book is currently in the process of its third draft. Hopefully by its fourth the book will be able to become a published work. The writer can only pray that dream of becoming a published author will come true, eventually.

CMR is fiction. Nothing about the story is non-fiction, nor will it ever be as the book takes place in a completely different world entirely. It takes place in a century not in the future, not in the past, nor is it in the present. It is in a time only its own. Set in a world only which is created by mind games. There is no truth to the story, but of course at the same time, there are no lies. It has characters that are not real people. Again, none of the story is non-fiction. It is all a fabrication with fabricated characters and fabricated lives of said characters that Ford Nichols created by themselves. So I ask you, as a person you don't know, please, keep the fabrication to Ford Nichols.

As Ford Nichols wishes to keep the book rather secretive until published, most of the things listed on this website are lies. But hey, isn't that what keeps a story interesting

What We Do Here

What  We  Do  Here

Writing

We are independent writers who enjoy playing with paper and pens. Or more usually (as we are in the common era) keyboards and screens. Sporadically on this website there will be personal writing; snippets of things not yet finished. We are writers, and therefore: We write.

Editing

Sometimes a writer hits what is known as "Writer's Block". An age old plague a writer prays they never have the misfortune of getting. And yet still, pray as we might, we fall ill. If such a thing happens to you, we are here to help. We are here to give advice on new steps and edit drafts of writing you wish to share. However, just know, we are in no way professionals so it may be pointless in the long run. Just a warning.

Critique

If you in no way, shape or form wish for your writing to be in any way edited, prodded, poked or even touched by us that is completely understandable. Instead, feel free to send in a piece of writing you wish only for us to view and complain to you about where we feel you can fix. It's always a pleasure to see what someone else has done wrong and point it out to them.

Tips For Writers

Tips For Writers

Don't

Writing is not fun. I'll just say it. Writing is stressful, confusing, frustrating and a pain to finish. Writing is a self bossed profession, meaning in simple, the only person who tells you what to do is you. That is a horrible way to run business, because simply, what if you're not in the mood to write? You just wasted an entire day of work. You start a piece, you think to yourself "Yes, yes I'll finish this." No you won't. You think up ideas, plots, worlds, characters but for the life of you, you can't seem to put them down on paper. So simply enough, writing is hard. And don't do it. Do Not Write.

This coming from a writer.

But If You're Stupid Enough To Try...

If you completely disregarded the first piece of information graced upon you and you somehow think "No, I'm not like that, I will finish." Very good. You're an idiot. Now let's move on with the task at hand.

How do you write? I can't go into the extensive details about the fine art of writing at the moment, so I'm afraid I'll just have to skim by the important things.

1. Characters are key. A story will not be worth reading if the characters are not good. You must lose all sense of self for your characters, they can not be like you. They must be their own people. People who have lives of their own, memories of their own. Remember, a book is only a portion of someones life. You have to know things come before, and things come after. Characters are not just muses. You must remember, they are people too.

2. Story line. If your story line is crap, the book will be too. A story line is number one on the to do list. What we always recommend is thinking up a beginning to your story and then the end. Think of the middle later. You always have to know how you're going to wrap up a story, far before you ever attempt to sit down and write it. Otherwise, you'll write forever. And after a while, that'll just get boring.

3. Immerse yourself. Now this one's going to harder to understand and harder to be explained. Writing is not usually something taught, but something felt. Writing is about feeling. It is about seeing these characters, seeing their lives and feeling what they feel. You can't write a book if you're not in that world. You have to well and fully commit to it before you can go anywhere with writing whatsoever. Remember, immerse yourself. If you can't do that. There's no way  you'll ever be able to write a lick.
